Ancient Appia walking tour

A pleasant guided tour to discover the “regina viarum” (queens of the roads), as the Ancient Appia was called in the ancient Rome: the nickname underlined the strategic importance of the road, which was built to connect Rome to the Brindisi seaport to reach Greece and the whole Orient.

The Ancient Appia is a real open-air museum: you will walk on the ancient cobblestones admiring the picturesque natural surroundings, typical of the Roman countryside and visiting the many sites of the Archaeological Park.

  • The Villa of Maxentius: where you can visit a well preserved ‘Circus’
  • Castrum Caetani ancient Dogana of the Middle Ages

Duration of the tour: 3 hours
